Some simple steps to getting online

Some simple steps to getting online

One of the most important factors in ensuring a successful website project is understanding each other's requirements. We need to understand your objectives for your web site, and you need to understand what we need in order to build your web site.

There are a number of steps to follow in order to make the website design and development process as smooth as possible. Hopefully the following steps will give you a better idea of what the web site design and development process involves.

Initial Concept & Details

You may wish to leave some of the following decisions up to us, or you may have a definite idea of what you want. To come up with a concept it would be really helpful to know the following:

  • More about you/your company what you do, background and competitors.
  • What the website's target market and goal is?
  • Any functionality you wish to have on the website - Blog, Gallery, E-commerce, Contact Form, etc
  • Some websites/designs you have seen that you like and why.
  • Colour schemes you like.
  • Do you have a logo?
  • Do you have any images you want to use on the web site (copyright free)?
  • Do you want the concept/design to be 1: Basic/Simple/Clean 2: Fun/Artistic 3: Corporate?
  • Do you have the Navigation and content in mind (Eg Home, About Us, etc, etc)?
  • Do you require domain name registration, web hosting, search engines optimisation, future maintenance?
  • Your deadline

Email contact or a Meeting

You may want to come in for a meeting or keep the communication with us over email either way we will keep you informed of progress and ideas.

Site map

Based on our conversations, if needed we will build up a site map to give us and you a better idea of how everything will fit together.

Design

You may want to leave this up to us or you may have some idea of what you want. Because we use an open source Content Management System (Drupal) you have many options.

If you want to keep the cost down you could look at the many templates available for Drupal and we can tweak it to suit you or we can create a bespoke template for you.

If you want us to create you a bespoke template we will first send you some home page mock ups depending on how many you request. Once we have agreed on a design and made any necessary changes we will build the template.

Setting up & content

Depending on whether we are hosting the website & domain for you or your hosting is elsewhere we will now install the CMS on a test domain and start building/coding the site.

We'll then ask you for the content for your web site (text and images). If you want us to source some images or write text/copy this is also possible if required.

We'll now create the rest of your website pages and add the text and images. This is an exciting stage as the web site is now becoming a reality. Once all the content has been added, we'll email you a link to to take a look at the test web site.

Going live

If you're happy with the test website, we'll upload all the website files to the live web space and your web site finally be online.

Maintenance

To ensure a steady flow of traffic through your web site, you should try to keep adding new content. If people know you that regularly add content and update your site, they will keep coming back. This will also help your search engine ranking. We're happy to provide continued support for your web site, and am happy to make changes and updates where needed.

Feedback

Its always nice to know if we have achieved your goal so we do sometimes send a feedback request after the project has finished to see how we did.

We look forward to helping your vision become a reality, please contact us for further details.

Future marketing and Search Engine Optimisation

We are always here to give advice and suggestions when your site is online, whether you need some Search Engine Optimisation done or you need an email marketing system to reach out to your customers.
